The Aintree Grand National
The Aintree Grand National is a horse race held every year in the United Kingdom in Liverpool. This is a popular occasion for many people living in the UK. The racing track is just over four miles long, with 30 fences to jump.
The fence heights range from 4ft to roughly 5ft. It all started on 7th February 1829, when the founder, William Lynn built the course and grandstand. The first race was in 1836. John Smith’s the, beer brewery, sponsors the Grand National and have done so since 2006. People all over the world gamble on the horses that run in this race, with thousands of pounds changing hands every year.
Slavery today
Answer this:
Would you liked to be whipped and forced to run and jump fences in the boiling heat?
These poor horses don’t have a choice! Is this act not similar to slaves being whipped into working in extreme temperatures or to innocent animals being tested on for human benefits?
The horses may be well taken care of but the end result is the same. They are like the gladiators of ancient Rome who were fed well but they were nonetheless slaves and used for entertainment.
Why?
It has been debated that if there were no horse races, horses would become extinct because some say that anything that humans cannot use or eat becomes extinct.
I strongly disagree. People have horses as pets, to compete in dressage’s and to go riding on in their leisure time.
Blood money
We cannot just let another year go by and as we stand back and watch on TV the horror of innocent horses being brutalised and in some cases killed.
At least the riders have a choice but using any animal, whether it’s a rat or a horse for entertainment is cruelty. It’s wrong because they are innocent and don’t have a voice.
Two horses died in the Aintree Grand National this year,2011, for what, so people can win some money, and dress up. I guess that’s what the world has come to then.
It’s all about money and show! But just think, what are the consequences? Is money so important, that innocent animals have to die?
Seventeen horses have died in the last 16 years in just the Aintree Grand National alone. This is just one horse race that is held once a year. How does that make you feel?
Be their voice
So my last question for you is; will you be betting on a horse next year? Or will you stand up for the rights of horses and just say no?
If we all stand up and say NO, it would literally save lives. Please help and make a difference, you’re all they’ve got!
